Our Mission
Notre Dame is a religious institution. Its school of law is the oldest Catholic law school in the United States. As an institution, the law school has emphasized throughout its history that “moral and religious questions are important [and that] no one need apologize for raising them or for taking them seriously when others raise them.”

Indeed, the Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy is unique among legal periodicals because it directly analyzes law and public policy from an ethical perspective. We endeavor to strengthen the Law School’s moral and religious commitment by translating traditional Judeo-Christian principles into imaginative, yet workable, proposals for legislative and judicial reform.
Although we primarily publish pieces that conduct ethical contemplation with a Judeo-Christian focus, we platform authors who represent many religious, moral, and ideological perspectives, but nonetheless share our ambition.
